Doing things for FREE definitely Pays

I made a decision early on when I started the coupon classes, that they would be for free.  Charging for classes would definitely bring extra money and with a child getting ready to graduate high school and another getting ready to enter high school, Lord knows I could use the extra money.  But I knew charging for classes may create obstacles for some and I did not want people missing out on this information and the opportunity to save money.

I like giving the classes and I appreciate all that I have learned from those that attend.  I also want to help as many people as I can because, if pantries are full then I know families are not hungry.

Although the coupon classes are free and I do not receive payment to teach them, I have found that I receive something much more than money.  The whole "give" and you shall "receive" concept really does work. 

Over the course of the last year, I have met so many interesting people, gained much knowledge and have obtained many good resources that benefit me with both the coupon classes, our non-profit ministry and our pressure washing/concrete coating business.  These opportunities and relationships, I believe, would never have happened otherwise.  I never started the classes to profit from them, but somewhow I am profiting!  It's been a blessing!

I strongly encourage you, as we begin 2012, to think about things you are passionate about, things you are good at and to share that talent with others, for free, so they can benefit without barriers and you will be surrprised at the payment you receive!  You can do this by reaching out to your city government, local chambers of commerce or other organizations and ask where you might be able to share your talent! 

Give of your time, talent and treasure and see how much your life will change in 2012!!!

12 Pantene products, 2 Oral B battery operated toothbrushes, and 1 bag of jiffy marshmallows, cost me a total of $1.17 with tax tonight at Walmart!  My subtotal was $-.44 but because of tax, I had to dish out $1.17!

Not too bad for over $60 worth of products!  I love coupon shopping + great deals!!!

Stock up on Baking Items in November

As the holidays approach, you'll notice an increase in coupons for baking items and great prices advertised for these items in the grocery ads.  Historically, the best pricing for these items is in November.  As Christmas approaches, it seems the prices go up rather than go down.  So when you see a great price for sugar, flour, and the rest of your baking ingredients, grab them, stock up and make sure you have a great supply for the Christmas holidays!!!

Get 10% off your groceries!

Fry's, Bashas and Albertson's are offering an additional 10% off your total purchase on Wednesday, November 2nd if you are a senior - 55 years of age or older.   At Bashas you must purchase a minimum of $15 worth of items to receive the discount.

P&G Deals - Better than a Dollar Store!!!

So I woke up early this morning, bound and determined to get to Fry's to grab the P&G items I was hoping for.  Unfortunately I didn't get there until about 8 a.m. but fortunately everything I wanted was there!  The sales are so great this week on P&G items!  I was able to get 23 items (3 of which were not P&G) for a grand total (with tax) of only $19.11.  That's less than getting the smaller versions of each item at a dollar store!   I saved $49.25 or 75%!  Here is what I got:

4 Gillette Shaving Creams - $.26 each
3 Dawn Dish Detergent (large bottle) - $.99 each
3 Gillette Body Washes - FREE
2 Herbel Essence Shampoo/Conditioner - $.99 each
1 Fabreze Set & Refresh - $.99 each
4 Old Spice Deodorants - $.50 each
3 Aussie Hair Products - $.99 each
2 Pure Silk Shaving Creams - $.50 each
1 Got to be Glue Hair Gel - $3.00 each

So about $70 worth of product for only $19.11.  Not too bad!!!!  This is a great week to stock up on these deals!

I opted not to get the 3 Free Dial Hand Soaps and instead used my coupons towards 3 Large Dial Hand Soap Refills.  These are normally $5.99 each and I paid only $1.99!  I got 10x the soap!

I also got 3 boxes of Old El Paso Taco Shells for only $.09 each.

Now I'm off to Basha's to get some more free stuff :-)

What is a Stockpile??

With the help of TLC's Extreme Couponing show, the word "stockpile" has definitely become a popular buzzword these days!

So what exactly is a stockpile? The dictionary defines "Stockpile" as a storage pile: as a : a reserve supply of something essential accumulated within a country for use during a shortage b : a gradually accumulated reserve of something.

In "coupon lingo" that word simply means, to have a quantity of more than one of the same items on hand. For example, a stockpile may include things like 10 boxes of cereal, 5 laundry detergents, 20 bottles of ketchup, etc.

Stockpiling shouldn't be confused with hoarding. We never want to "hoard" anything. Groceries are meant to be used not collected. However, you do want to make sure you have enough of an item on hand so that you do not run out in between sales and have to pay full price. So what is the magic number for a successful stockpile? Well...that depends on you & your family's needs.

I have to admit, I have more toothpaste in my stockpile than I need. I don't think my family of four will use 40 tubes of toothpaste this year. But its so hard to pass up when they are free! So in order to keep my stockpile from becoming a hoarding pile, I give them away to friends, family and organizations that help others. I personally like to keep at least 3 of everything on hand. We go through a lot of cereal, so at any given time I have at least 10 boxes (right now 25 - hey, the sales were too good to pass up! :-)

The goal is to have enough on hand from one coupon sale to the next. So when you're building your stockpile, think about those things that your family uses and consider how often you use them. Then create a list of things you would like to have on hand at all times. Watch the grocery ads and your coupon inserts for those items. When there is a sale and you have a coupon, stock up on those items! I tend to stock up enough for at least 3 months. Typically items will go on sale once a quarter.

It's tempting to want to get large amounts of items when they are on sale or free but keep it in perspective. Your stockpile will also take up space. So that is something you'll have to consider. Make sure your stockpile doesn't take over your home and cause unneeded stress. We recently converted a linen closet into pantry #2 and I will stop there. I promised I would not let the stockpile take over! :-)

I've seen families on Extreme Couponing that have rooms dedicated to food, but I haven't met a family yet who needs 2,000 bottles of ketchup at any given time, however I do know families who can benefit by having 6 on hand. So when creating your stockpile, base it on your families needs and living space in your home. Afterall, who wants to have to manage all those expiration dates on 2,000 bottles of ketchup anyway! I've got enough things to dust and clean in my home as it is! :-)

Target coupons at Walmart?

Yes it's true, I've just been informed by a Walmart employee that they are now accepting the Target Store coupons! However, instead of ringing the coupon up like other coupons, the Walmart employee will do a price override and reduce the price of the item by the amount on the Target coupon.


This is great news! You can download those Target coupons and use them along with a mfg coupon at Walmart.


Also, keep in mind, if there is a store coupon listed in any other grocery competitor's ad, you can also use those coupons as well at Walmart. Just remember, the Buy one Get one Free or percentage off an item coupons do not apply.

Great deals @ Safeway!

I went to Safeway for just one thing and walked out with 2 bags and about $40 in savings!  The Bulls Eye BBQ sauce is on sale for $1.00, and with my coupons, I got them all FREE. 

The SURE deodorant is on sale for $.99 and with my six $1.00 off coupons, I got all six for FREE.

The got 2b hair products are all Buy One Get One Free.  I had a $2.00 off coupon from the Walmart All You magazine.  So I paid $3.49 for two!  This was a great deal! I normally pay around $5.00 each and buy about 2 every 6 six weeks!  My teenage kids love and use these products all the time.

The John Frieda line of hair products are also on sale.  The Full Repair, Treatment, Styler or Finisher products are on sale for $4.49 and I have a $5.00 coupon!  If they are out of stock at  your store, make sure you get a raincheck!  I was told that tomorrow there should be more coming in.

I love when I find unexpected surprises like this!!!

Grocery Deals 6/15-6/21/11

Well another Wednesday is upon us! My how time flies! I didn't see too many amazing deals in this weeks grocery circulars but I was pleasantly surprised today when I went grocery shopping and bought about $200 worth of food including meat, hygiene and household products for only $60. What I have come to realize and expect is that many of the specials are not listed in the ad. Which makes sense, considering the cost of print media. So again, as I stress in the workshops, don't leave home without your entire coupon binder. There is bound to be an unadvertised special that you'll find and wish that you had that coupon for! Expired Coupons - Send to Military Families Overseas

Got expired coupons? Well before you throw them out, consider sending them to military families overseas! Military stores overseas will accept expired coupons up to 6 months old!

Clothing Store Coupon - save 50%

The great thing about coupon shopping is once you get started, you'll begin to notice all types of coupons!  Today, we used a great coupon at Rue21, a clothing store that sells Jr. clothing, shoes & accessories.  We got $80 worth of clothing & shoes for only $40! 

The coupon begins today through June 13th and works like this:
Spend $20, save $10
Spend $40, save $20
Spend $80, save $40

It's a great deal, especially for those teenagers that will be needing back to school clothes!

Storing that Stockpile

As you have probably seen by now, it doesn't take long to come up with a stockpile (a supply) of items when you're using coupons.  While I don't "extreme coupon" shop, but some of the deals are just so great it doesn't make sense not to buy them in multiples, right?  So here's a question for you, once you get all those toothpastes and laundry detergents, pastas and sauces home from the grocery store, where are you storing them all?

I've found myself clearing out the bathroom cabinets - which I should  have did years ago, now instead of my daughter's makeup and hair accessories, there are coupon items.

I have organized my freezers and pantry better than I have ever done before.  I have also organized hall closets and gotten rid of stuff I haven't seen for years, to make room for my stockpiles.

And I have to admit, when my husband wasn't looking, I added 2 tall shelves to his workout room!!  It's just a small area and I have agreed not to go any further, but let me tell you, I have those shelves maxed in weight :-)  We call this the "overflow room!"
